This revelation comes from an interview held between the outlet EDGE and Sledgehammer Games’ general manager and co-founder, Glen Schofield, and the studio’s chief operating and development officer Michael Condrey. The two explained that in order to imbue the multiplayer areas for Call of Duty: WW2 with realism, extensive first-hand research was done to ensure accuracy in their portrayal, with the developers then stating that the maps will extend beyond those found in the campaign.

While previously released multiplayer details for Call of Duty: WW2 have alluded to the online mode featuring the most well-known locations from the war, it could also highlight some of the more obscure landmarks as well. However, Sledgehammer Games were rather tight-lipped on the issue, as the EDGE interviewer mentioned that the studio will reveal more soon, writing, “A stop on Condrey and Schofield’s research trip informed one such multiplayer map, but with the mode’s finer details being held back for E3 – and a beady-eyed Activision rep sat in the interview room – specifics elude us.”

Taking all of this into consideration, it’s understandable as to why Sledgehammer Games would want to hold back on divulging too much about Call of Duty: WW2 and its multiplayer before E3 2017. After all, unveiling such details next week during the event will allow the studio to have the information reach as wide of an audience as possible due to the conference generally being considered the “Super Bowl of video games.” With any luck, Sledgehammer will deliver the goods next week.

Call of Duty: WW2 is set to release on November 3, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
