This isn’t the first Zombies tease from Sledgehammer and it likely isn’t the last. Less than a week ago, Schofield also dropped the first teaser for the July 20 reveal, featuring a nasty looking zombie face to wearing some sort of unconventional metal face cover or helmet. Both that image and today’s image have mysterious details about them, but considering nobody knows exactly what to expect from Nazi Zombies in Call of Duty: WW2 there’s nothing to do but speculate.
The one hint that Schofield has provided so far is a continued comparison to the original Dead Space. When fans ask Schofield if the mode is fun, he then asks, “Did you like Dead Space?”
But considering Dead Space is set in a space station where most of the humans have been turned into monstrous creatures, it’s unclear what the connection might be. So which part is the Sledgehammer dev trying to tie to Call of Duty: WW2’s Zombie Mode: a space station, humans turning into terrible monstrosities, or maybe third-person shooter?
Activision and Sledgehammer have also been running an ARG related to Call of Duty: WW2’s Zombie Mode. Thus far fans have seen a photo of a Roman emperor and a painting by Italian artist Raphael that was stolen by the Nazis, as well as coordinates pointing to Dunkirk. Once again it’s unclear how all of these things and Dead Space come together, but we do know that Zombies offers a co-op mode with a “unique storyline.”
While certainly different than what Call of Duty has done with Zombies in the past, it’s probably best to just assume it’ll deliver that same incredibly fun experience that fans expect. Here is Schofield’s latest response with regards to just how much like Dead Space the new Zombie Mode really is:
