Sledgehammer Games boss Michael Condrey recently spoke with GamesRadar about Call of Duty: WW2 and described the War mode as a “series of objective-driven conflicts.” That sounds an awful lot like Battlefield 1’s Operations multiplayer mode, where players must push their way over a battlefield to conquer the entire map.

The same type of game mode would work for Call of Duty: WW2, though likely without many of the Battlefield 1 aspects, such as destructive environments and vehicles.

While describing War and the other multiplayer experiences coming in Call of Duty: WW2, Condrey shared his excitement for the game. Condrey said:

It’ll be interesting to see how the new War mode plays out with the lack of health regen and ammo pickups. Players will need to work together for their needs, which hints at the possibility of dropping health packs or ammo.

Additionally, Sledgehammer Games is introducing a new Destiny-esque social hub where players can interact and work together to find people to play with. All together, it sounds like the developer is bringing some serious changes to the Call of Duty franchise, which is much appreciated by many, even those who are die-hard fans of the franchise.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Call of Duty game without zombies, which are set to make a return to the series with Call of Duty: WW2. That said, it will be removed from the regular online multiplayer experience, which will be focused on the gritty, tragic happenings of World War 2.

Call of Duty: WW2 is set to release November 3, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
