It seems the team behind the game has also picked up on the popular multiplayer title’s favorable reputation with audiences, as Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki recently told GamerGen that Call of Duty: Warzone won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. According to the studio narrative director, the multiplayer game will be a “constant” going forward, seemingly remaining an integral part of the series’ annual schedule in the years to come.

In the interview, Kurosaki claims, “We’re in kind of uncharted territories here. Call of Duty has been on a very regular cadence for many many years, and Warzone has made us rethink exactly how best to release new content and how to integrate it.” He continues, “Call of Duty is a genre in itself, there are different branches in the Call of Duty tree, but they’re all connected in some ways,” clearly referring to the different tones and gameplay concepts introduced in each of the various sub-series underneath the Call of Duty umbrella.
His final quote is perhaps the most interesting, however, with Kurosaki stating “Warzone will be the through-line that connects all of the different various sub-franchises of Call of Duty.” What this exactly means for the battle royale game is something of a mystery; however, it seems to imply that the title will still remain a big part of the Call of Duty yearly lineup regardless of the release of future games. Some have even posited that it could mean future releases in the Black Ops franchise or other various sub-franchises could bring new maps themed around their specific setting to Warzone, especially with Verdansk seemingly based on the setting of last year’s Modern Warfare.
Regardless, it’s good to hear that Warzone will seemingly be a big part of Call of Duty going forward, especially as many currently peg it as being one of the better battle royale games on the market. With Black Ops 5 rumored to be the next stop for the Call of Duty franchise, fans will just have to wait and see whether Warzone ties into the upcoming shooter.
