This much was revealed by the Director of Programming for Xbox Live, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare can played on Xbox One in one of two different ways by fans of the first-person shooter franchise. For those who already own the original Xbox 360 disc, all one needs to do is insert it into the Xbox One and let the game download as if it were a digital copy, while those without a physical copy will have to buy it. Thankfully, as seen in the tweet below, the title is currently at a discounted price as part of the Xbox Spring Sale.
For those unaware, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare joins the Xbox One Backward Compatibility program’s ranks alongside several other entries in the popular Activision-published series, including Call of Duty 2 and 3, World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops 2, Ghosts, and Advanced Warfare. This definitely gives Call of Duty diehards plenty of first-person shooter action to experience on the Xbox One, but again, it’s safe to say CoD 4: Modern Warfare will be the most coveted.
All things considered, while many will be excited to learn that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is now playable through the Xbox One Backward Compatibility program, some might avoid the title altogether, as one report from a while back has suggested that lots of Xbox One users barely play 360 backward compatibility games. What’s more is that with the availability of Modern Warfare Remastered being an option, some might simply decide to stick with the visually enhanced version instead.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and is playable through the Xbox One Backward Compatibility program.
